Likewise, social protection consists on policies, programs and advocacy for the protection, promotion and provision of basic rights to the deprived neglected segments of the society. Deeply imbedded illiteracy results in contagious ignorance which paralyzes their capabilities of thinking realization and speaking in favor of their rights which as a member of society they should be having without any discrimination.
Economic safety nets classically provide Cash transfers Food-based programs such as supplementary feeding programs and food stamps, vouchers, and coupons in-kind transfers such as school supplies and uniforms conditional cash transfers Price subsidies for food, electricity, Public works, Fee waivers and exemptions for health care, schooling and utilities to bridge the periods of economic hardships i.e. unemployment, presence of lethal illnesses or any other devastating shock. During the days of unemployment the financial assistance for the food and work helps the family avert starvation. In rural areas, mostly people loose the earning opportunities in absence of labor in agriculture field i.e. harvesting, sowing etc. whereas, in urban areas, unemployment lasts for several consecutive days. An economic safety net also includes vocational training, on job training programs (i.e. paid apprenticeships) and training courses with flexible schedules to allow people to earn and learn at the same time and to minimize opportunity costs.
Policy and advocacy involves interaction with Federal, Provincial and District Governments on behalf of the poorest and most vulnerable. In this sector NRSP is also engaged in advocacy which is an effective contribution for the Government to formulate policies.
NRSP relies on its wide experience of working with public and private departments in identification of the people who in need of social protection with arrangement of sources to meet the identified needs. NRSP also establish linkages of the community with the Government Departments working on the same mandate. Wherever applicable, public sector funds the project activities or themselves arrange the required resources for the community.
