
Socio-economic Development of Destitute and Neglected Children’s Families Project is supported by the Home Department of the Punjab Government. National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) are the key implementation partners. The project aims at creating employment and diversifying sources of incomes of 10,250 poor families of destitute and neglected children by providing Skills Training, Income Generating Grants (IGG) and improved access to services including microfinance services. The project is serving in five districts of Punjab province (Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan and Faisalabad).
The main responsibilities of the CPWB include identification, rescue and registration of the street children. NRSP is responsible for capacity building and engaging the families of these children in various income generating activities through Skills Training, IGG and microfinance services.
Other Project Highlights

Government of Sindh is Implementing UC Based Poverty Reduction Programme with the support of RSPs, the main objective of this project is “to improve the quality of life of the poor and marginalized communities that lack basic facilities”. In order to achieve the overall objectives this project includes number of interventions/investments related to health, skills training, infrastructure development, microfinance, community investment fund agriculture and livestock sectors.
The Government of Sindh is firmly committed to bring reforms in education sector as well but initially this segment was not included in the project. On the request of Government of Sindh RSPs carried out a detailed situation analysis in two union councils of project area to assess the baseline position of education sector while targeting some dimensions i.e. functional and non functional schools, missing facilities, enrolment ratio and literacy rate etc. As expected the findings of situation analysis were astonishing and starling, as a significant number of schools were non functional with a low literacy and enrollment rate and a high percentage of out of school children. Based on the acquired results, RSPs proposed a comprehensive intervention package to address the stated declining situation of education component on priority bases.

This project was designed in collaboration with the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and the financial support of the United Nations Fund for Women Development (UNIFEM). After the agreement finalization implementation started in April 2009. The project is a joint venture of NCSW, NRSP, UNIFEM and Rozan. The project duration for the first phase is one year. Major activities has been under taken are given below;
1) Bench Mark survey in Rajanpur and Mirpur Khas
2) Capacity assessment of the stakeholders
3) Capacity building (CB) plan and development of material to be used during CB process
4) Training of law enforcement agencies judiciary and community representatives
5) Provincial and National Consultations for the formulation of policy recommendations
6) Impact assessment
